“If the day and the night are such that you greet them with joy, and life emits a fragrance like flowers and sweet-scented herbs, is more elastic, more starry, more immortal- that is your success. All nature is your congratulation, and you have cause momentarily to bless yourself. The greatest gains and values are farthest from being appreciated. We easily come to doubt if they exist. We soon forget them. They are the highest reality. Perhaps the facts most astounding and most real are never communicated by man to man. The true harvest of my daily life is somewhat as intangible and indescribable as the tints of morning or evening. It is a little star-dust caught, a segment of the rainbow which I have clutched.” -Henry David Thoreau, Walden, Or Life in the Woods
Sometimes I’ll take one look at a handsome stranger, our eyes sharing a split second of intimacy, and I will fall in love. By nature I am an independent soul, but I am a romantic at heart. Because of this there is a constant internal conflict going on within myself. Half of me craves intimacy in a significant other, and half of me wants to life my own life for a while without the obligations of someone else.
I believe there are so many ways to be beautiful that don’t involve appearance.
There was this one moment where we just lay there, holding each other in silence. Our heartbeats were in sync and I could feel his breath on my neck, soft and steady. I was ever-so-slightly rubbing his shoulder with my thumb. For a split second, we were the only two people existing in an otherwise meaningless world.

I have realized that I will never enjoy meaningless hookups and no strings attached relationships. When I’m dating a man, or even just kissing him, I want to actually like him, which seems hard to come by in the modern world of everyone wanting to jump each others’ bones on the first date. This saddens me because I look at the world with my little old soul and wonder “Where did the romance go?”
“If you’re not doing what you love, now, I hope you will be in the future. Life is love, love who you’re with, where you are and what you’re doing. We all have battles and we all have struggles but not everyone can see past their own adversities. Pain and joy come hand in hand. I must wish for you all, whatever it is that is hurting you, to let it go. Happiness is a choice, and I hope you all choose to be happy.”
